Your Range Hood Filter

Blog by Jill Pennefather | October 17th, 2012

Most homeowners know the benefits of a kitchen ventilator or range hood but often forget the importance of cleaning or replacing its filter. A properly functioning range hood will do more than remove cooking odours, it will help keep kitchen air from damaging your home and your health. Range hoods draw and trap combustion bi-products such as smoke and cooktop gases, and help prevent evaporating greases and oils from drifting and settling throughout your kitchen. The ventilation will also help protect you from the discomfort of humidity causes by cooking and protect your home from moisture damage, which can contribute to wall decay, mould and mildew. So be sure to check your range hood manual to see if your range hood filter is washable or disposable, and be sure to clean or replace it according to its recommended maintenance schedule.
